A welcoming Christmas table does not need an oversized arrangement. A tray you already own, a handful of clean pinecones, and a few small lights can make a centerpiece that leaves room for the good part: gathering around it.
Gather your supplies
- A wooden tray or a shallow ceramic serving dish.
- Five to nine clean, dry pinecones.
- Short evergreen or rosemary sprigs from a florist or a permitted pruning source.
- Three flameless LED candles in different heights.
- A length of linen ribbon, if you like.
Brush loose debris from the pinecones and let them air out before bringing them to the table. Use a washable liner to protect wood from damp greenery.

Idea one: a little woodland tray
Arrange the candles in a loose triangle. Tuck larger pinecones toward the back and finish with short sprigs that cover the base. Turn the tray around to check the view from every seat. Keep the arrangement low enough for guests to see one another comfortably.

Idea two: small bowls down the table
For a narrow table, trade one large centerpiece for three shallow bowls. Place two or three pinecones in each and add a small LED candle alongside. Leave open spaces between the bowls for water glasses and shared dishes.

Idea three: a pinecone place setting
Tie a handwritten name tag to a small pinecone and rest it on a folded napkin. Use the same twine at every place setting for a gentle rhythm. Guests can take their little decoration home after dinner.

Prepare ahead and store for next year
Assemble the dry pieces the day before and add fresh greenery shortly before guests arrive. After the gathering, remove damp material and store dry pinecones in a ventilated box. Choose LED candles so no open flame sits near dried plant material.
